2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup Semi-Final 2nd Leg Review
Exciting second leg action in the Semi-Finals of CONCACAF International Club tournament
What an amazing season it has been for the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup. While we have seen some spectacular moments of goal-scoring, defensive play, and big goalkeeping shows, all of these matches have been nothing short of brilliance on the pitch.
The biggest story has come from the MLS Semi-Final part of the bracket, where the Vancouver Whitecaps did the unthinkable to Inter Miami, and again Tigres falls in the Semi-Finals as Cruz Azul advances.
INTER MIAMI (USA) 1:3 VANCOUVER WHITECAPS (CAN)
WHITECAPS ADVANCE 5-1 ON AGGREGATE WITH THREE AWAY GOALS
The opening ten minutes were a fast-paced attack by Miami, as they looked to erase the aggregate deficit. Jordi Alba scored the first goal of the match in the 9th minute, getting a nice pass from Luis Suarez on the far side. His shot was deflected off the keeper and in.
Miami cut its deficit in half as they were down two goals to one on aggregate. But the Whitecaps started to turn things around and started attacking the net. Nothing came of it and Miami held the lead into halftime.
But when the second half began, it was all over for the Herrons as the Whitecaps put a whooping with three goals and not only buried Inter Miami, they took the dagger and plunged it into their hearts.
They scored two goals in three minutes as Brian White redirected the ball inside the near post from Sebastian Berhalter in the 51st minute. Then in the 53rd minute, Pedro Vite took a shot that deflected off the Miami defender. It looped up and dropped inside the upper near 90.
The final nail in the coffin came from Berhalter after getting two assists. He took a long rip from the top of the area and scored the final nail in the coffin for Inter Miami, and the Whitecaps became their third MLS Canadian side to reach the Champions Cup Final.
CRUZ AZUL (MEX) 1:0 UANL TIGRES (MEX)
CRUZ AZUL ADVANCES 2-1 ON AGGREGATE
All match long we knew these two Liga MX sides were going to battle each other out to see who would be the ones to reach the final. Without a doubt, these clubs are so evenly matched, that you never know who would come out on top.
In the 82nd minute, the winner finally came as Cruz Azul was awarded a penalty, and Angel Sepulveda converted the spot kick to help his side reach the Champions Cup Final. For the second consecutive semi-finals, Tigres fell and couldn't advance to the final since they won it back in 2020.
The CONCACAF Champions Cup final will be held on Sunday, June 1st down in Mexico as Cruz Azul will host the Vancouver Whitecaps, which should make an interesting matchup.
Vancouver played two really fine games. Their youth and energy vs. some old slow players for Miami.
Having Messi in the MLS is a positive but teams like the Whitecaps are the future of the league.
