2025 Gold Cup Semi-Finals: Diego Luna Shines, Mexico Edges Honduras
The last two games before the Championship Final
The CONCACAF Gold Cup semi-finals had one great game, and the other had a single goal to push them forward into the Championship Final. But so far, this Gold Cup has been exciting to see, and we will talk about these games now.
USA 2:1 GUATEMALA
This game was the breakout game that Diego Luna wanted to have, and he showed everyone why he wanted the ball and why he wanted to be on the US Men's National Team. His first goal was on a rebound chance in the fourth minute after Luca de la Torre took the shot. The save was made, but Luna converted the rebound.
In the 15th minute, Malik Tillman crossed the ball to Luna on the far side and went on an attacking run. As he entered the area, Luna took a hard, low shot that smashed the back of the net inside the far post. He scored his first two goal game and scored goals in two consecutive games.
While Olger Escobar pulled one back in the 80th minute, it was the defense and Matt Freese who slammed the door shut on Guatemala and got the victory after four to five minutes of second half stoppage time.
Give credit to head coach of Guatemala, Luis Tena getting his team prepared and ready for every game; they did a fantastic job in this Gold Cup tournament.
MEXICO 1:0 HONDURAS
One goal was all Mexico needed to advance to the Championship Final when 16-year-old Gil Mora received a pass, attacked the middle of the field. He saw Raul Jimenez attacking down the far side, passed him the ball, and Jimenez slots it home for the only goal of the match.
While both sides had plenty of chances to get a goal or more than one goal, the defense and the goalkeepers were up to the task. While it looked like Mexico scored a second goal, the VAR showed the player was in an offside position, and the referee took it away.
But we will once again have the top two teams of the Confederation battling against each other for the Gold Cup trophy at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Sure will miss Canada not being in the final.
Not confident the USMNT will be up to the task. They are good in part of the game and weak at other times.
Not happy with the game management, they really needed to go full tilt the whole game and not sit back and possibly end up like last time with penalties to decide the game.
