Tuchel's personality won't mesh with the Bayern hierarchy
FC Bayern’s sacking of Julian Nagelsmann wasn’t as stunning to me as it was to many others. I’ve spoken a lot privately to people in the last six weeks about the drama behind the scenes at the club and that was spiraling out of control. When you factor in Dortmund’s surge under Edin Terzić, who not only is winning but doing it with a certain panache.
Despite everything, Bayern are still only a point behind BVB entering next weekend’s Der Klassiker, where they can overtake Dortmund. But keep in mind BVB entered 2023, nine points adrift of Bayern and have now overhauled them.
Nagelsmann was very highly sought after when he was at RB Leipzig and befote that at Hoffenheim. Considered, the next big thing in football management, it was assumed the 35-year old would get the benefit of the doubt, but I recall that Uli Hoeneß was not a fan of the appointment - thinking FCB needed someone with more seasoning. And at Bayern the hierarchy of former players and influential sponsors/shareholders rule the roost.
