Welcome to Cracks, a series by The Fútbolinho Network where we shine a light on ballers from around the world who deserve way more love. Whether they’re cooking in a top league or grinding in the shadows, these are the players doing serious work on the pitch that real football heads appreciate.
There is no better player to begin the series on than Real Madrid’s Dean Huijsen.
Fantastic Debut
Huijsen, 20, has had an incredible last three months. From making his debut for the Spanish national team to signing for his dream club, the center back has caught the football world by storm.
On June 1, the youngster signed for Real Madrid. He had just 17 days to adjust to a new city, a new team and a new manager before making his debut in the Club World Cup.
Not only did he start, he played a vital role against Al Hilal earning a 7.5 rating on Fotmob in the 1-1 draw.
Huijsen had the second most touches in the game with 79, just seven behind Ruben Neves. His ability on the ball is a huge asset for Real Madrid as the club struggled to create attacking opportunities from the back last season.
Consistent Performer
The center back followed up his amazing debut with an even better performance against Pachuca.
Huijsen and Madrid were put in a difficult position after his back-line partner Raúl Asencio picked up a red card seven minutes in. His leadership and composure in the back made it seem that Los Blancos still had 11 players on the pitch.
The 20 year old completed 75/81 (93%) of his passes, cleared seven opportunities and recovered five balls in Madrid’s convincing 3-1 win.
For First Place
Huijsen and Real Madrid look to top Group H on Thursday. They face Austrian side FC Salzburg who currently have the same amount of points as the Spanish Giants.
A win would guarantee Madrid toping the group. If Los Blancos draw, they could drop to second in the group if third place Al Hilal (2 pts) beats Pachuca (0 pts).
