Dominic Casciato Departs Omaha, Joins Tampa Bay as Head Coach
The USL League One title winner moves teams in the midst of a down year at Omaha
Union Omaha announced today that Omaha Head Coach Dominic Casciato has departed the team and joins USL Championship side Tampa Bay Rowdies as that club’s permanent head coach, effective immediately.
Per Tampa Bay’s announcement, the club “negotiated an undisclosed fee with Omaha to secure Casciato’s arrival in Tampa Bay.”
Casciato joined Union Omaha as head coach ahead of the 2023 season following the departure of Jay Mims. During his tenure with the Owls, Casciato led his squad to back to back Player’ Shields, and a league title in 2024. He amassed a regular season record of 37-16-13 across two and a half seasons.
During his time at Omaha, he fostered the development of several notable players who would go on to find success at higher levels, including Pedro Dolabella, Joe Brito, JP Scearce, Alexis Souahy, Shaft Brewer, Jr. and Noe Meza.
While Omaha has struggled to regain its form this season after the departure of key players in the off-season and early long-term injuries to multiple regulars, Casciato is still one of the most sought after coaching talents in the USL ecosystem.
According to Casciato in the team’s press release, “the opportunity of leading one of the country’s most historic and successful clubs at the Tampa Bay Rowdies is one that I couldn’t turn down.”
Casciato indicated there was an agreement with Omaha’s ownership which stipulated a release “when the right opportunity came along.”
The Tampa Bay Rowdies have also experienced struggles this season, currently sitting at 11th in the Eastern Conference table with only three wins in 14 matches. The club fired Head Coach Robbie Neilson in April, and have been led by Assistant Steve Coleman since that time. Coleman will resume his duties as Assistant under Casciato.
There is no word at this time as to who will be replacing Casciato, either in the short term or on a permanent basis. The club promises more details “soon.”
Omaha will travel to Charlotte on July 12th, then host South Georgia Tormenta on July 18th.
Casciato’s first match with Tampa Bay will be on the road at San Antonio on July 12.
