Georgia FC 1-3 Club de Lyon: CDL uses big second half to win first league match of the campaign
A brace for Burrito Martínez
Club de Lyon showed signs of a breakthrough last week in a gutsy effort in the Detroit area against Michigan Stars. Today after falling behind to an early goal at Silverbacks Park, CDL were nearly flawless for the last 60 minutes and ran out 3-1 winners against Georgia FC. It was the club’s first win of the NISA campaign and perhaps a harbinger of things to come.

What stood out today for Club de Lyon in the victory?
After conceding the early goal, Club de Lyon began to assert itself in midfield. Martínez, Matias Pourrain and Gabriel Ortiz all were very good.
Club de Lyon were finding space in the attacking third much of the match and the overlapping runs from the wingbacks, were outstanding.
Unlike the first meeting with Georgia FC which was littered with bad giveaways and chippy play (as well as some questionable officiating), CDL won most of the critical second balls today.
CDL also kept their shape really well at the back after conceding early.
Even when there were some quick changes in possession, the defenders for Club de Lyon generally fell into shape quickly and denied any easy Georgia opportunities.
The timing off the forays forward from all three CDL midfielders was exquisite. This sort of movement and timing will create problems for NISA opponents all season.
Christian Ruiz and Pedro Hernandez both became more influential as the match wore on and they ran the channels well finding space as mentioned above in critical areas.
Club de Lyon return home to face the Maryland Bobcats next Sunday at 7pm ET at Showalter Field in Winter Park.
Good to see that Burrito is back. I think he may be their key player for success
