Indy Eleven Men fail to show up in El Paso, lose 3-1
Instead of building off of a hard fought match vs Sacramento, Indy did not come prepared in their travels to El Paso.
El Paso was always going to be a difficult place for Indy to get points, from the travel, playing on a baseball field, and El Paso being one of the best out West. But, if this team wants to be taken seriously, it had to get something from this match. It failed to do that, and it was evident early on.
The Locomotive got started early on scoring in the 13th minute from Amando Moreno, as Indy tried to find it’s legs. The Eleven would start to build some possession, and even come close a few times. Alas, as this season has shown, the finishing touch just wasn’t there for the visitors. El Paso would find it’s second goal in the 33rd when the El Salvadorian Eric Calvillo punished Indy on the counter.
At the half, Indy was down 2-0 and felt as if the fight was already over. Indy would make a few changes to start the second half, but McAuley’s side couldn’t find their shooting boots.
El Paso would find it’s third goal in the 83rd minute from Frank Daroma, putting this match to bed. Edward Kizza would find the sole goal for Indy shortly after Daroma’s in the 86th minute. Many Indy fans went to bed early on Friday night and the Eleven left El Paso with nothing but some travel pains.
Indy continues to lack any consistent defensive effort, and is still looking for their first shut out in league play. The midfield seems to lack control - far too often we see long balls being played that are entirely skipping the midfield. On paper this team should be top four, but in their current league form, they sit in 8th place with 7ths after 8 matches.
Next Match: USL-Cup at One Knoxville SC on May 24th at 7pm EST from Covenant Health Park in Knoxville, Tennessee.
So were they the Indy X?! The Indy IX??! I gotta know!!
Sorry to hear about the disappointing showing. This entire season for Indy11 seems to be lackluster. How much do you think it relates to all the MLS-related shenanigans by the Mayor (and city by extension)?
