Indy Eleven start slow, fight back in 2-2 draw vs Detroit City
Indy Eleven gave up two early goals at home vs Detroit City, then started clawing their way back into the match. After a red card to Indy's Hayden White, Indy was able to find it's equalizer.
The energy was high leading up to this regional rivalry. A decent contingent of the Northern Guard made the trip down, and Indy was looking to notch their 2nd league win of the year. Those hopes were dashed quickly.
In the 2nd minute, Detroit’s Connor Rutz got the away off to a flying start and quickly followed up by Darren Smith’s effort to put Detroit up 2-0 after 16 minutes. Indy would finally start to wake up and notched their 1st goal in the 27th minute from Elvis Amoh.
After a sluggish first half start for Indy, they came out in the 2nd half much better. You could see the energy, the passion and desire to give the Brickyard Battalion the first home win of the year. Then Hayden White picked up his 2nd yellow card in the 62nd minute, and Indy were now down to 10 men. But oddly enough, Indy still looked like the team on the front foot - even with the man disadvantage.
In the 67th minute, Indy would find it’s equalizer. Coming again from the foot of Elvis Amoh, securing his brace for the evening. As the smoke cleared, and the rain start coming down, Detroit started to take better advantage of Indy’s red card. Detroit started applying more pressure, getting more shots (not on goal) off and was getting into a good offensive groove. But Indy’s defense wouldn’t budge. Ending the night 2-2, and after that fast start from Detroit, Indy fans went home the happier of the two sides.
With the draw, Indy continues to not win at home and be a little too leaky on the defensive side of the ball. Indy finds itself - somehow - still in the playoffs, sitting in 7th place in the Eastern Conference.
