Kartik's Notebook: USL appoint McDonough. Why?

After talking to many around the game this week, I am beginning to understand the logic

We’re starting a new periodic feature today, where I deliver some thoughts based sources I speak to on background.

Today’s subject is Paul McDonough’s controversial hiring by USL. Almost universally panned publicly based on social media, my conversations with those that work in and around the domestic game have given me some insight into why the hiring was made. As usual valid reasons do exist whether we agree with them or not as fans.
