Leicester City - too good not to fail
The Foxes are likely to be relegated from the Premier League this season
Leicester City’s squad isn’t “too good, to fail.” It’s actually “too good not to fail.”
Let me explain…
I’ve often wondered what would happen if a highly-decorated squad of players ended up in a relegation fight. Would they have the grit, the nous, the determination to escape? While it was fun to speculate about Chelsea in the 15-16 season and Arsenal in the early stages of the Covid-impacted 20-21 season, neither ended up in a relegation scrap.
But this season’s Leicester side, a team that has finished in the top 5 in the Premier League in two of the last three seasons and also won an FA Cup in that period, is very much in a relegation fight. And I personally think that they are unlikely to get out of the bottom three.
When you look at this Foxes side, it’s littered with star players, many of whom have been linked with bigger clubs over the course of the last few seasons. Full internationals, the likes of James Maddison, Wilfred Ndidi, Youri Tielemans (who is injured) among others do not strike me as those up for a real fight. Neither does Harvey Barnes, a prodigy that I think could probably help the likes of Manchester City and Spurs. This is even though Barnes was part of a pretty good Championship squad not long ago at West Brom when he was sent there on loan during his development phase.
