On Wednesday, June 7th, the news broke like wildfire as the greatest footballer in our lifetime has officially decided to come to the United States to play his remaining career at Inter Miami of Major League Soccer. This man blazed his popularity by making magical moves on the pitch in Barcelona, winning multiple trophies at the club game in La Liga.
Not only is he getting paid by Inter Miami, but Messi will also get extra deals from the league on a percentage of shirt sales with his name and a good chunk of revenue from Apple TV. That is a shrewd move by all parties to really bring in one of the most famous footballers in the world.
You say his name and every grown man reverts to a little boy. Anytime you buy a jersey with the club he plays for, or when he plays for his country of Argentina, you know just how popular he is. He can't walk out of his house when the public mobs him for a picture or an autograph. To be in the same room with him is enough to make you go crazy, but what he's done throughout his career has been extraordinary.
He has won at FC Barcelona 10 League Titles, seven Copa Del Ray's, seven Spanish Supper Cups, Four Uefa Champions Leagues, and Three FIFA Club World Cups. During his recent stint with Paris Saint-Germain, he won two Ligue Un titles and a TRophee Des Champions. For Argentina, he won two youth tournaments at the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the Olympics in 2008.
All the years he was on the senior side, Messi's goals were to win the two biggest trophies in World Football, the Continental Championship in Copa America and the FIFA World Cup. In all the moments he tried to get those trophies, he would fail and be compared to Diego Maradona. He won the World Cup in 1986. Finally, Messi did win international glory as Argentina defeated Brazil in the 2021 Copa America, and he finally won his World Cup championship in Qatar in 2022.
And now, this man who is loved, and searched for, and people purchasing jerseys with his name on the back will be taking those same talents here in the United States, and already the opponents who are remaining on Inter Miami's scheduling hosting them are already selling out their stadiums. I can tell you that Red Bull Arena has already sold out its home match against Miami on August 26th.
