On a busy day of USL Championship news, Sporting Jax announced former Dundee United and twice interim Heart of Midlothian manager Liam Fox as their first men’s manager.
The former midfielders began his managerial run with Cowdenbeath, not lasting a full season before being sacked, a 6 win 4 draw, 20 loss record ensuring the ax. It would be 5 years before he would get another managerial opportunity with Dundee United, again not lasting the full season. He would be hired in August of 2022, and gone by the end of February 2023, another poor run of form would see 7 wins 4 draws 14 losses before getting the ax.
In his 2 interim roles with Heart of Midlothian over the last 2024-2025 season, he would amass 5 wins 1 draw and 1 loss.
Mark Warburton, Sporting Jax’s sporting director, mentioned this was a very detaled search in looking for someone who knew the game exceptionally well and knew the opportunity the club presented. He also mentioned that players that Warburton helped manage in England gave Liam Fox rave reviews.
The press conference started with Mark Warburton ‘been a very detailed search’. Wanted someone who wanted to know the game exceptionally well and knew the opportunity the club presented. Keene to move forward quickly.
Great reputation and players who worked with Warburton gave rave reviews.
“This is a special opportunity to build something from the ground up,” said Fox in the press release. In the press conference he mentioned looking forward to new challenges, developing players and creating culture.
Steve Livingston also spoke at this conference and confirmed they have applied for USL Division One. Again, they referenced their stadium announcement should come sometime in early 2026. “We have Major League Ambitions,” said Livingston.
Fox’s appointment is pending visa approval and the club expects him to join the team in Jacksonville in the coming weeks.
