The Bundesliga returns from an elongated Winter Break on Friday. I couldn’t be more excited as for me it didn’t feel like club football was really “back,” without German clubs playing.
Why exactly is The Bundesliga is my favorite top-flight football league on the planet? Multiple reasons are outlined below.
Fan ownership of clubs
Community Clubs - owners aren’t some distant oligarch in Palm Beach or Kuala Lumpur or by a government-associated entity in Abu Dhabi or Doha but are majority owned by members of the local community.
Supporter friendly - schedules are rarely made around media partners unlike every other prominent league in the world.
Packed grounds with loud, passionate fans who actually own their clubs. The 1.Bundesliga has the highest average attendance of any league in Europe.
Focus on youth development - no other top European league plays as many high-level young player in first team matches.
