The NASL in 2012- the season that sent lower division soccer on its way
After a tumultuous few years where USL was on the brink of collapse on the men’s pro side, NASL hadn’t buttoned up its breakway plans and clubs were constantly folding, NASL stabilized in 2012. Every NASL clubs from 2011 returned with the exception of Montreal who moved to MLS.
San Antonio was a smashing success on and off the pitch. Tampa Bay won the title and they continue to contend for honors today in USL.
It was a critical season to bringing lower division men’s pro soccer to where it is today.
