When you take a look inside the confederation of CONCACAF, you understand that there isn't a lot of dominating teams outside of the North Zone when it comes to Mexico, US Soccer, and finally, Canada has joined the party with their recent qualification performance to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
But what we have seen from the other zones of the confederation in Central America and the Caribbean who are decent and continue to battle for supremacy within their region and one day will make a big run to a championship.
CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani created the Nations League to help those nations earn important national team matches during the FIFA International calendar when they don't schedule friendly games with other soccer federations within or outside of CONCACAF.
As the group stage recently ended in the second edition of the Nations League, we had some great races for these national teams to earn spots for promotion, qualify directly to the Gold Cup or the Gold Preliminaries, and of course, the dreaded word relegation to the bottom leagues.
You may think these games had no meaning, but that's not so. Outside of the not-so-glamour teams like Bonaire, Sint Maarten, Guadeloupe, and so on, you saw some fantastic matches and the possibility of a new power coming into play as typical Caribbean islands known for baseball are now becoming football powers.
In League C, Puerto Rico dominated both Cayman Islands & British Virgin Islands in four consecutive matches. They swept all 12 points and scored 17 goals while only allowing two in Group D. The same went for Saint Lucia, but they weren't as prolific in winning Group C.
