US Soccer Fans Continue Showing Their Immaturity
American Soccer fans of today continue to show why they have no real knowledge of how the game works.
Many years ago, American sports fans demonstrated their knowledge and expertise of the various professional sports leagues and teams they support, including the MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and soccer. The addition of social media has expanded tremendously, but sadly, it has also shown the current generation to a level of stupidity.
This means this current generation of American soccer fans has no clue how international soccer works, why certain countries are playing in their respective regions during Confederation tournaments, and how the mechanics work.
When you try to inform them of the situation at hand, they automatically call you dumb, or stupid, or give out their own made-up opinions that they believe they are more knowledgeable than you are, because their truth is real, and the real truth is not.
It might make your head hurt with the stupidity of these fans, but in all seriousness, it's sad and pathetic. Not only do they believe that the US Men's National Team shouldn't play these opponents from within CONCACAF, but they don't even take them seriously.
Here is the Twitter/X conversation I had with one of these clueless fans who have no idea about how international soccer works and why a certain country has been able to beat the US Men's National Team in three official competitions.
How many times have I gone on my American Soccer Show and written here on Beyond the 90 about the excellent work of Panamanian Men's National Team head coach Thomas Christiansen improving his players tactically? Many times over.
That's why he was able to defeat B.J. Callaghan at the Gold Cup, Gregg Berhalter in World Cup Qualifying and the Copa America, and now Mauricio Pochettino at the CONCACAF Nations League. The loss to Pochettino was during a real meaningless friendly at the Q2 Stadium in Austin.
Then, more outlandish tweets came out of his mouth like the Euros and the Copa America are major competitions, the Gold Cup isn't. That argument within itself is stupid and meaningless because what he doesn't understand is that the Gold Cup is our tournament to compete in.
For some of you who don't remember, CONMEBOL held a special edition of the Copa America because it was celebrating 100 years of the tournament. The year after they played the actual scheduled Copa, they played it and asked for permission to have it in the United States.
For that to happen, CONMEBOL needed permission from two separate entities to make this work. The US Soccer Federation has to say yes, to have it on their soil. They also needed permission from CONCACAF because internationally, it's from their jurisdiction.
Then all parties agreed, and official documents were signed. CONMEBOL got permission to play their Special Copa America Centenario tournament in the USA. Just like last summer's Copa America, all because Lionel Messi is playing in Major League Soccer.
But we all know what happened in the final at the Hard Rock Stadium. Fans without tickets raided the stadium, fans who bought tickets were told no, there was nearly a human crush at one of the gates, and someone tried to sneak in a dog in their duffle bag to the stadium.
All because CONMEBOL didn't want help from US Soccer to give proper security for these types of issues, and while on the pitch the final was fantastic, off it was a disaster, and those fans destroyed Hard Rock Stadium property. Officially, the bridge between these two confederations has now been burned,d and it might take a long time to fix it.
But according to this fan, it's a joke, it's going to get fixed, and CONCACAF is corrupt. While I'll admit there are still some tiny forms of shenanigans going on, President Victor Montagliani has made CONCACAF better than former Presidents Jack Warner and Jeffrey Webb combined.
Many have said over here that CONCACAF & CONMEBOL should combine their forces and make it one big confederation, but after what happened last summer, that idea is definitely out the window. Still, it will never happen because the ten nations in South America don't want CONCACAF to join them.
Has anyone ever looked at a map? Does anyone know about the countries that are a part of the South American Continent, but not a part of the South American Football Confederation? Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana are CONCACAF members along the Northeast section of South America.
Shouldn't they be part of CONMEBOL? But they aren't. Also, French Guiana is not a FIFA member due to its nation being ruled under French law. The case of former French Football legend Flourent Maluda, who was born in French Guiana, was discovered by the main country must play for the French Football Federation, then once retired, goes back as a French Guiana player.
Would this person ever ask these types of questions? No. Because he already assumes he knows more than I or many others who have better knowledge of how certain mechanisms of this game work. But then again, my knowledge has no bearing.
Every article I write about the game in the USA and how it should be mirrored everywhere else in the world is not coming off the seat of my pants, or I pull these ideas out of thin air. I do research and I ask questions to those who have more knowledge of the game than I do, then I write my findings for all of you.
I also listen to or watch podcasts from those who have played the game, like Eric Wynalda, Alexi Lalas, and many other broadcasters and former players who have had those experiences, and write my notes on how the game is governed.
But this generation doesn't use the most important muscle inside their bodies, which is called a brain. Everything is sensationalism, with no usage of a real thought. Make up something and make it sound like it's the truth.
When it comes to the Gold Cup, this person believes none of our American players like Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Tim Weah, and so on, who play in Europe, shouldn't bother to play in it, and remove this year’s Gold Cup to 2027.
This idiot doesn't understand that after this World Cup, which will be here in 2026, there will be another Gold Cup tournament in 2027. This is a bi-annual event. Once every two years. The Nations League was created to be that qualifying tournament for the Gold Cup. But don't tell this guy the truth, he thinks you will make it up.
American Soccer fans were once knowledgeable. Can tell the difference between a good player and a bad player. Knows what runs need to be made, and how the defense should be in a position to make a stop. Not anymore, they continue to say outlandish things and continue to make the rest of us look bad.
This is why the American Soccer fan of today continues to fail themselves and all of us with their support of this great game. This is one of the reasons we will never gain respect from others is through stupid posts on social media and real conversations out in the public. We continue to fail ourselves.
You are a much better person than I am, Sir.
Point blank. I have zero patience for people that don’t want to engage in respectful dialogue.
Which is the reason that this is one of the only websites of any kind regarding any subject that I engage where community members are sharing their comments.
Love this site.
