It may not have been a banner year for the United States Men’s National Team on the field, but off the field, in the stands, it was the best year for the USMNT since 2015. The US had been stuck in a stretch of eight years where the average attendance was below 30,000 people per game. That streak finally came to an end in 2024.
Here is the attendance for every USMNT home game in 2024.
January 20 - USA vs. Slovenia - Toyota Field - 9,191
March 21 - USA vs. Jamaica - AT&T Stadium - 40,926*
March 24 - USA vs. Mexico - AT&T Stadium - 59,471
June 8 - USA vs. Colombia - Northwest Stadium - 55,494
June 12 - USA vs. Brazil - Camping World Stadium - 60,016
June 23 - USA vs. Bolivia - AT&T Stadium - 47,873
June 27 - USA vs. Panama - Mercedes-Benz Stadium - 59,145
July 1 - USA vs. Uruguay - Arrowhead Stadium - 55,460
September 7 - USA vs. Canada - Children’s Mercy Park - 10,523
September 10 - USA vs. New Zealand - TQL Stadium - 15,711
October 12 - USA vs. Panama - Q2 Stadium - 20,239
November 18 - USA vs. Jamaica - Energizer Park - 21,080

The average attendance for the USMNT in 2024 was 37,925 per game over the course of twelve home games. That is up 28% from 29,578 in 2023 and is the best average attendance for the USMNT since they drew 38,764 per game back in 2015.
While the average attendance going up is certainly a good thing, there are some caveats. The biggest one was Copa America being played in the US. American sports fans have always proved willing to show up for big events and the US drawing three impressive crowds for their three Copa America group stage games is proof positive of that being the case.
Another massive caveat is, still, after all these years, the number of games in which there were more fans cheering for the opponent than for the USMNT. There were 59,471 people in the building against Mexico in March, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the bulk of those people were El Tri fans. This was also true for the game prior as they officially drew 40,926 against Jamaica but it’s worth noting that was part of a double-header with Mexico playing in the second game. And in the two friendlies in the buildup to Copa America, the US was very clearly the away team against both Colombia and Brazil.
But considering how bleak the attendance has been for the USMNT the last several years (bottoming out at 21,383 in 2022, the worst in the last 19 years) getting back to over 35,000 people per game is welcome news. With the Club World Cup here this summer, the World Cup here next summer, and Olympic soccer here in 2028, many are hopeful that the excitement and interest spills over into the USMNT.

I'd be interested to see a graph over years. Like how much do the competition schedule, growth of the game, and vibes around the team impact the numbers? Maybe another with percentage of venue capacity instead of total numbers? There's a lot of criticism lately about their venue selection but I'm sure there always has been
What is the revenue split between the USSF and the venue or other operators/middlemen? By revenue, I mean ticket/entrance, merch, concessions, parking, etc. Thanks for any insight you can provide!
