I’ve seen lots of mocking and derision the last few days in the British media around Manchester United’s apparent interest in Wout Weghorst. It’s been disappointing to witness a media ecosystem that has recently become much more well-rounded in their appreciation and understanding of global football to fall back into some of its old tropes.

But I get it - Weghorst most recent impressions are quite different than the sort of player he was in the Bundesliga for three really good seasons at Wolfsburg.
