I agree with you, Robert. How does it help the sport and especially the lower divisions if the only accomplishment from this debacle is a second D1 closed league? If the USL Premier League (or whatever entity it is) uses the same unfair pro-league standards, it might just be a simple permission for a second 1%-ers club in the USA soccer landscape. Not good enough, in my opinion.
USL can have a competing division 1. The framework is there. They just need 12 teams with 15,000 capacity stadiums, in 3 time zones with wealthy owners. This lawsuit is about an inept and corrupt NASL trying to blame someone else for its failure.
Not sure what a settlement against the MLS would accomplish.
If this is about opening the door for a USL division one, is that a move forward for football in the U.S.? Not sure about that either.
My sense is the USL ecosystem will benefit, no matter what the trial outcome is.
