What is the money behind Scottish United? You would think with all the oil/gas --and cattle!-- money in the Calgary/Edmonton area, there would be plenty of deep pockets and good corporate management that should have prevented this debacle?
( OTOH, the Canadian MNT had to turn to the MLS to get the money to pay Jesse Marsch, so who know?! Maybe the oil/gas/cattle money is just poured into Hockey, with a few drops for Canadian Football (not soccer), and nothing else.....?
Sure there is oil/gas money in the area but that doesn't mean that an organization/business cannot fail. I think that $ provides more options for success for a club. There are no shortage of parents willing and able to spend a few thousand dollars here and there to help their kid's development, even if they aren't likely to get a scholarship or make it as a pro. Sounds like it's more about management and other off the field issues.
On the field the team has done really well. In the 2023 League One Alberta exhibition season, both men's and women's teams didn't do great but they really stepped it up in 2024. They have added a few more quality players for 2025.
It seems hard to believe, but in the first half of the 20th century there were a lot of pretty notable clubs in Calgary and Edmonton that collected a lot of national trophies. Most of them died in the years around World War II except Callies and Scottish. So there's a lot of history involved here.
