As I commented in the announcement by Kartik, it is interesting this was announced even before the season ended, with still two games to go!! My guess is that Miami was hoping he would quit immediately rather than endure lame duck status or litigate. His quitting thus saved the club some coin, drama, AND gave the chance to start the healing/ rebuilding immediately.
I would not be surprised if Miami puts up a surprisingly good fight in its final two games, as all players know they are auditioning for jobs for NEXT season. It's kind of analogous to the Central Valley Fuego situation in League One in some ways.....
With 2 weeks to go in the season there isn't much coin left to be saved. Yes, the drama is gone but the healing and rebuilding is going take much longer than a couple of weeks.
I do expect Miami FC now to have a big chance at playing spoiler. The biggest weight is off these players shoulders and they can just play knowing the nightmare is about to be over and they can get on with their professional lives.
Regarding the Tampa Bay (TB) situation, all parties understand that profit/loss considerations are very important. I would bet TB has been promised a major cut --maybe even majority?-- of the gate/concession/parking revenues for the game against NCFC.. In contrast, it would cost many thousands to rent a subpar (limited seats or non-soccer specific) venue and risk poor infrastructure/logistics in the Tampa area. For the USL Championship, $20,000-50,000 difference in revenue or less expense for a single game can be pivotal in decision-making?
That is a major assumption regarding a promise of cut that I believe to be inaccurate. To start with the game is free to attend so no ticket sales (NCFC is asking for RSVPs to ensure they have the proper staffing). My guess is NCFC had to cut a deal with Wake County for the additional non-playoff date.
As for parking, a quick check shows parking would likely be $10 bucks. Considering NCFC's average attendance is between 2,000-2100 that would likely be 10k at the max. My guess is that would be split between Wake County and the club.
Then there's the additional date you have to pay stadium operators/camera crews/broadcasters (unless USL decides to call this from the bunker and not use the NCFC broadcast team that's been used all season).
Yes, teams work on fine margins, but NCFC just on no ticket sales alone, is taking a bigger loss on this game than usual. The county is going to get their cut one way or another.
Good info! I wonder why they are not charging admission? Even high school games nowadays change a few bucks.... I wonder if NCFC has to partially reimburse TB on travel costs, so hoping to get 3-4000 cars given the free admission, with $10K of that going to TB....?

Just to give you an idea of the scale of revenue, 2000 cars x $20 per car = $40,000 in parking revenue alone, for just one game!

I bet it's going to be a bunker broadcast 🙂
